About Joy Renée

Joy Renée is a Level 5 certified teacher of the Speech Level Singing (SLS) Method developed by legendary vocal coach, Seth Riggs. The SLS Method has been used by over 120 Grammy Award winners. The Sing With Joy Vocal Studio, based on Maui, is an official SLS licensed vocal studio.

Sprung from her roots in Northern California, Joy Renée has always loved to sing!

As a young girl, she performed as the lead singer in school and community musicals and was awarded first place in the 1984 Reno Jazz Festival. Since then, she's performed with jazz and honor choirs, as well as a jazz combo. During the past ten years, she was one of the lead singers for Maui's best convention band, Jimmy Mac & the Cool Cats.

On several occasions, including 2008, Joy Renée has been invited to teach at the SLS Summer Vocal Program in Hollywood, California. Throughout the year, she provides voice lessons to students on Maui, as well as voice lessons over the Internet using (free) live audio/video software (iChat, AOL Instant Messenger and Skype) and by telephone.

Drawing on her growing body of experience with pop, rock, R&B, jazz and musical theatre, as well as seven years of rigorous and extensive SLS training, Joy Renée applies specific, personalized techniques to help students alleviate strain, smooth breaks and build range.

Many singers are frustrated by hoarseness, loss of voice, limited range, breaks, or even physical damage such as polyps or vocal nodules. Joy Renée has received many referrals from ENTs (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialists and has subsequently helped numerous vocalists recover vocal cord health and build resilience.
